"Silent Heroes" is a social project of Guido Heisig and ArtHuss publishing house. This book is a collection of personal stories and memories of different people, which reflects the impact of the war on the lives of ordinary (but at the same time, so unusual) Ukrainians.
Guido Heisig has been an airliner captain for over 25 years, 12 of which he partially lived and worked in Ukraine. He is always accompanied by a sketchbook on any flights and trips, where he captures details, plots and moments that impress and inspire him. He perceives the world with childlike curiosity, with ease and enthusiasm; and in his work he reflects his life views and experience.
Since February 24, 2022, Guido has been helping and supporting people who were directly affected by the war. Traveling through Ukraine during his volunteer missions, he meets people who live with courage in this difficult time.
"It was these constant trips to and from Ukraine that turned out to be so valuable. I have met so many extraordinary people who have shared their personal stories with me. And I realized what a huge impact this war has on everyone. And despite the fact that the war turned the lives of each of them upside down, Ukrainians know how to love life, to be alive, in the moment here and now", - shares his thoughts Guido Heisig.
Guido began to write down these stories and draw sketches in his album, trying to capture and record every special moment. This is how the idea of "Silent Heroes" was born. Each story is a testimony of how important it is to be strong in your convictions and not to lose hope, even when the whole world around you is radically changing.
